  • Question on confederate kepi

Ok I bought a dirty billy kepi off the site a few months ago and just recently starting picking and poking at it. When looking on the inside I found out that the stiffener was either cardboard or plastic that has been taped. So my question is why would this be. I thought that dirty billy was known for authenticity. And also what is the stiffener supposed to be. Sorry just a learning newbie. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Question on confederate kepi

Many here on this forum have said that Dirty Billy's hats are not the authentic reproductions they once were from many years ago. I have never owned one so I can't honestly answer.

What I can tell you is that several threads have been posted here about kepis and the proper construction. If all else fails I recommend contacting Greg Starbuck. He eats, lives and breathes kepis...and it shows!

Thanks for the tip. I have used the search function and came up empty. Do you know how I can get a hold of Greg Starbuck. He doesn't have a website. Thanks again.

        Hunter-

Before going to the search engine scroll down to the bottom of this page and take a look at the "similar threads". Sometimes you will come across the very information you are looking for or it can help you on your way.

Greg Starbuck is not on the AC all the time. He seems to check in once and a while. His AC user name is "Canebreak Rifle Guards". Try sending him a PM on here and give him a couple of days to respond. Or check him out on Facebook. I hope this helps.

Greg isn't taking orders at the moment. Or at least he stopped doing so about a year ago.

I agree, his are the best, I think; I own six of his caps!

Just because you bought it here and someone represented it was from Dirty Billy doesn't necessarily mean it was made by Dirty Billy.
