  • Regular battalion

Instead of having various US regular companies scattered about the hobby, why not have several companies that could come together and form a battalion of US Regulars! I've heard that such an undertaking might be underway, but I haven't heard much about it. My only contact is Jim Tate, who has been an advocate for this effort, but I haven't heard from him in a long time.

It wouldn't even have to be an official unit, just a conglomeration of guys who want to portray US Regulars and be an organization which people could go to for such impressions.

And the reason why I'm posting about it is because I'd love to see this happen, but I'm just a lowly private with few connections or wherewithal.

There actually is (or at least was) one such organization, Syke's Regulars. I'm not sure how active they are these days, but their members are (were) spread out throughout the East. Back in the mid-2000s, I used to fall in with a mess here in California that was semi-affiliated with them.

      Re: Regular battalion

This has been done numerous times for events - not for regulars necessarily but for any number of units both Federal and CS. Authentic messes, companies and individuals have come together to form large battalions at any number of events and continue to do so. Look through some of the adjunct postings for the 150ths and you will see what can and has been done in the past. The same could be done if the impression called for a US regular presence also. If you are wanting to have one large organization that only portrays US regulars and only attends events that had regulars present, I would have doubts about that coming together since folks are often interested in doing a variety of impressions to match what is needed for an event.

We put great federal regular company for the 2011 Wilson's Creek. That was the last time I had seen that many regulars in one place.
