  • CJ Daley?

I have ordered a Federal Frock Coat KIT from Chris Daley. I ordered it on September 11th. After multiple email attempts, I have not received either a response or my kit. It has been almost 7 weeks and I have no idea where my money went. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love to call but there isn't a phone number provided; only an email address from which you will receive no response. Is he still in business? I'm somewhat concerned...

Going back in the long ago saved threads archived here, you'll find a few posts about the speed of getting an item from Chris. It'll vary from 48 hours to 24 months. He has a full time job and this is a side gig for him. That said, he makes some great stuff, and you're likely to get it from him as he's able to put it together (possible putting it together in a run with others as he gets the orders). I've received everything I've ever ordered, just know he takes a while some times. In this market of high-end authentic goods, 7 weeks isn't a long stretch at all. Many of us still feel the pain from the "way back days" of one to two year waits for almost everything...

I have dealt with Chris before, too. Great stuff. This is my 22nd year in the hobby and I've probably bought a dozen items from him through the years. I'm just curious as to the lack of communication. I'm ok with it taking a while to get, I just want to know what's going on...

If you look, you'll also find lots of stuff about Chris taking money and never getting you your goods. I won't order direct from him, ever, because of his dubious track record.

It's only been 6 weeks and you are worried? 90% of the vendors out there will take 6 months to get you a product. Most don't keep items on the shelves, especially a kit.

Chris put together my first CC kit 20+ years ago. I can think of few vendors better to deal with.

I fear that my point is being missed here. 90% of those vendors will also answer your emails...especially when they are repeatedly sent. I completely understand that it takes time to get a product out. I make clothing for friends and other reenactors, too. However, I also keep them updated as to the status of their order, especially when they contact me. They have entrusted me with their hard earned money and I owe it to them to let them know what's going on. My MAIN concern here is the lack of communication. I have heard nothing since I ordered it 7 weeks ago.

The "way back days." Haha. I remember those. I remember waiting 9 months for trousers from Grand Illusions only to get them and they were the wrong size.

                Re: CJ Daley?

                Hallo!

As shared, the Past is filled with the same story when it comes to Chris. So much so, IMHO it is so common as to be predictable and expected.
That being said, every so often Chris "skates" onto thin ice and falls through until he cycles and recovers to fall through again. To the point, IMHO and IMHE, delays and total lack of communication is his Business Model. (Orders are not acknowledged. What seem to be In Stock and available for immediate deliver are not. He cannot be reached by telephone. His answering machine goes unanswered, or his voice mail box is filled. Emails go unanswered. S-mail letters go unanswered. And what would think is a 1-3 month turn-around time on items to be made can take years.)

My last order of two trowsers went two years.

That said, there was a time my CW closet or two was ONLY Chris Daley made stuff.

But I appreciate the concern. I have an order, prepaid, I made with another well known vendor. I do not know whether it was received or not but the payment was. I will try calling.. again.

Not saying this is the case, but the Way Back Daze of the Jarnagin Monopoly many lads got "spoiled' by making a phone order and seeing the off-the-rack and from inventory item on their door in a week or less. And, then those lads had to learn to deal with the Premier Label makers some years later where years was not unusual.

And I know a famous gun-maker who has a five (5) year wait to get on his 3-5 year wait List. ;) :)

NOT defending the Business model or the lack of communication model, just sharing that this is fairly common and regular for Chris over time. The dates change, and the customer names, but the story repeats the same. At one time, it "cost" Chris his AC Approved Vendor status.

Question answered, once again. I would suggested doing some searching before ordering from any vendor. I wish you good luck.
