Does anyone know when the "improved" version of the knapsack was manufactured for use? The patent modification is January 1862 and it appears there may be a December 1862 modification. Additionally, does anyone with a knapsack from the NJ guy that shall not be named know what the flap stamp says? I am trying to determine if this would fit for an October 1862 officer impression based on patent/manufacture dates. I know they were popular as a private purchase item but am finding surprisingly little detailed information.
