    Will a original ramrod fit a armi sport m1842 Springfield , can they be made to fit ? I have a broken ramrod I live in the UK lodgewood will not ship to the UK so I want to get one made, I have the dimensions of a original . I need some help to make this gun serviable I have almost finished defarbing it , Ie sight ground off brass one applied , modern markings removed , all metal work finished armoury bright, wood removed , wood finishing about to be applied .

    Did the tip break off. You can have it welded or silver soldered back in place.

      It did Jim but was lost , I bought the gun with the broken ramrod and no tip

        I have my '42 with me, however my ramrod is the replacement one sold by Lodgewood and fits perfectly. I can go and measure it if that will help. You would need to know the dimensions of an original you can compare it to. Let me know.

            Lookup Butch at Butch's Antique Gunparts in Florida. He makes very nice ramrods that are high quality at a reasonable price. I think he ships to the UK. stores.butchsantiquegunparts.com

            He made a very nice one for my Pedersoli M1861.

              To answer the question though...an original ramrod will fit the Armi Sport US 1842. Quite a few of us did that when they came out twenty years ago because the reproduction rammer was so poorly made and oddly proportioned. The newer "defarbed" version that Armi Sport came out with a few years ago has a better, more correctly proportioned ramrod. It is still two piece, though.
