  • CJ Daley fatigue blouse

I bought what was purported to be a CJ Daley fatigue blouse last year on the classifieds and haven't been able to wear it to a Federal event until a few weeks ago. Some things about it after seeing it in the sun in pics leaves me doubting if it is in fact a Daley. Beside a new Daley and a S****a it definitely has a purplish tint to it and has a green wool lining. Would anyone know any tell tale traits of a Daley I can look for? Not having any luck getting a response from him yet.

My first sack coat was a Daley which had a green lining. Although that doesn't probably help much.

Many moons ago I bought a blouse from Daley. It turned purple after a while. He sold me another at a discount since I had the coat for quite a while. Both had brown linings.

I think I had a Daley coat from the same run of as yours, I got it directly from him and it had a green lining in it. It was a nice bright shade of blue. I sold it because I was a bit small on me. I got another through Regimental Quartermaster last year and it had a grey lining and the flannel seemed to be a bit of a darker blue. I do remember a story from one of my pards from way back: He bought dark blue kersey from a very well known vendor for a federal frock coat. He made it up and with in a month it turned purple......

Very possible. Unfortunately 99% of the fabric sold as "Indigo Blue" these days is actually dyed with modern synthetic dyes that strive to mimic the greenish cast blue of true indigo. As a result what one gets after fading etc. can vary greatly from the intent and expectations.

Depending when it was made, years ago there was a run of FHW flannel that reacted with acidic sweat to turn red/purple. I had to replace a couple of sack coats I made over that one. But that was in 2001 I believe.
