  • Bizarre Coincidence

While surfing some of the sites describing the recent H.L. Hunley proceedings, I happened upon a first-person account of a federal general service "eagle" button found at Magnolia Cemetery very near the Confederate monument during the rehearsals leading to the Saturday funeral. Any button experts care to opine on this button's authenticity?

If it is original, and not lost during earlier, but contemporary, memorial observances, it is indeed a fascinating coincidence.

    Cordially,

It appears to be the right color and design for a period dug eagle button. A positive ID to war time would have to come from the back mark which can't be read from the pic but it sure looks right.
