2nd Mississippi Infantry Uniform Guidelines

Hello all,

I am currently researching a possible secondary specialty impression I am considering doing for the Battle of First Manassas reenactment. The impression would be that of a private in the 2nd Mississippi Infantry circa 1861. I'm new to this subject, as the majority of my past research has been of Virginia troops, and this is my first attempt at researching Mississippi uniform guidelines. I'm aware that there was a campaigner adjunct at the 150th Manassas that portrayed the 2nd MS, and I'm hoping that someone on here might still have a copy of the original uniform guidelines that were used for that event. I'm posting this in the sinks, as I'm not quite sure which forum it fits in. Thank you all, and any help is most certainly appreciated.

Robert, unfortunately, the threads seem to have been zapped at some point. I have looked into the settings and based on the settings, they should be showing up, but they are just not there.

Oh ok :( that's unfortunate the thread is gone, I was very much hoping to get the uniform guidelines for the 2nd Mississippi, as my online searches have turned up nothing so far.

I was with Company C for the 2011 Manassas event, although I don't have the official guidelines for our company this is what we wore:

Red flannel short with white stars on the collar
Gray trousers, preferably with red stripes on outer seam
Black hats in tri-corner shape
Accoutrements were pre or early war issue, mostly .69 caliber M1857 or M1839 style
Arms were encouraged to be .69 caliber smoothbores, M1816s, M1842s, etc. Other muskets such as P1853s were accepted if an alternative could not be found

Not every company was dressed the same, at least one company was wearing gray shirts, another in blue jackets with green trim (Art Stone's Company I think), while others had blue collars and cuffs on their red shirts.

Hope that's enough to get you started.

Thank you! The red battle shirts with the white stars on the collar is the specific 2nd MS impression I was looking for, I just wasn't sure which company in the regiment wore them. That will definitely give me a good start!

Hunted a picket post on the Blackwater River where the 2nd Mississippi was one of the rotating regiments camping there. Found some Mississippi I buttons. No round balls, only 54 and 58 gardners. Of course that was in late 62 and 63.

Great link, thank you sir! I'm hoping to find out what specific accoutrements they have in the photos, such as cartridge and cap box patterns and maker marks, brogan style, trouser pattern, etc. I'm only in my first year in the hobby, so I'm not yet well versed on how to distinguish the differences between different patterns.
