Does anyone have any knowledge on what exact model was the Mississippi marine brigade’s caps were? All I know as far as the uniform is concerned, is that it was exactly the same uniformed as regular U.S. Army personnel with the exception of their hat, which in description seems to be a modified Model 1839 forge cap or a modified naval officer’s cap.
The history of the unit is that it was made up of army personnel organized in to a battalion of infantry, a battalion of cavalry and an artillery battery. The unit was supporting the United States ram fleet. There is much more to this unit history (including nepotism),but I don’t want to turn this into a wall of text.
