  • Federal blanket overcast stitching

    Hello all,
I recently received a federal blanket from W&W and right out of the box, its fraying pretty badly. The paperwork suggests adding overcast stitches to the ends to prevent fraying. Ive soaked the blanket in cold water and am allowing to hang dry, for shrinkage, then I need to stitch it to prevent further fraying.. Does anyone have a photo of this on a blanket? I researched overcast stitching, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to fold the end over or what. a couple reference photos would really help! its a different, looser weave than anything I've found online.
    Thanks,
    -Kevin

I bought a CS blanket they produced several years ago and the directions for the stitching was included with the blanket. You may want to reach out to Dan to see if he can send you the instructions that came with the CS blanket. It is really easy to do.

Thanks but I"m NOT asking about sewing the US insignia on a blanket using chain stitching... I'm asking about sewing the unfinished fraying edges of a blanket with overccast stitching. Anyone have one of these blankets? How did you stitch the raw ends to keep them from unraveling? Photos?

That is what I was referring to as well. Dan had included the directions for sewing the ends of the blanket.

I bought my 'Abraham Thomas' Federal Issue blanket some 20 years ago, long before Digital Digest was a valuable resouece. I did a simple whip stich on each end with the same color yarn as the blanket. Still holding strong after many reenactments with zero unraveling. What Will showed should last for ever.
