A friend of mine has a repop Whitworth and wanted to deck it out like an original. As far as we could find, only civilian English models still have all the accoutrements that came with the rifle. From that point, he gave me a couple pics of original civilian English Whitworth cases and asked me to make one.
First up, the original civilian English Whitworth case-
Next up, my version on the case- Case frame is 1/4 sawn red oak locally harvested. Partitions are poplar, locally harvested. Perimeter band is black walnut salvaged from an NC tobacco barn that dated to about 1870 so the tree may well have been alive during the War. All hardware except for the two latches on the ends are reproductions of 19th century cabinet hardware. My thanks to David Menshaw of Research Press in England for a clean jpeg of an original Whitworth label that was used to reproduce the label.
