Can anyone comment on the authenticity of items sold by the Richmond Depot online? A private E-mail response would be fine, It's one vendor of many that I'd like an informed opinion on. Thanks.~Gary

Mr. Conley, Perhaps you would care to elaborate more upon what was "not up to snuff". In fact, I invite you and anyone else on this board to view my work at www.kabar44.com I would especially be interested in knowing what was not admireable in your eyes. Was it the hand sewn corded buttonholes, The handsewn top stitching, the machine sewn legs (1864 dated Johnson & Clark Gold Medal ) which are not visible anyway? Perhaps the natural or logwood dyed thread used in assembly? Every item that I make is documented to an original piece. Now my question to you is this, Do you have the qualifications to know what your looking at? What exactly are your qualifications? By the way, who was the purchaser of these pants? All of my items come with a no questions asked moneyback guarantee including shipping. :)

          Mr. Hanes and All,
I have made the mistake of speaking too soon, sorry! The pair of trousers I was referring to did not come from the Richmond Depot (Mr. Hanes). Mr. Hanes, I apologize for offending you in any way, it was a misunderstanding on my part. Anyone from the Company of Military Historians knows much more about uniforms than I would!

So much for that bump in the road now back to the original question. I am not an expert on uniforms and just know enough to be dangerous. However, I can tell good sewing from bad. I examined some of his wares at Spottsylvania and Mr. Hanes uniforms exhibit a high degree of workmanship. Much better than my jacket that came from a vendor previously approved on the old forum. He uses all the right material from the right sources. To my untrained eye they look to have the same cut as the originals.

Mr. Stillwagon, Sorry for leaving my name out. I went back and filled in the signature block.

Mr. Hanes, I hope you look into having your product line included among the vendors on the list. It would definitely be a feather in your cap.

                    Re: Richmond Depot online

Stopped in at the Retail Location for Richmond Depot today here in Richmond, VA. Although they were in the process of packing for the NSSA this weekend, they were more than happy to show me a few things and before I knew it we had been talking a little over an hour. The precision in the uniforms is of the upmost quality...and everything being handsewn. The button holes are unbelievably perfect. I just hope that more people have the oppurtunity to recognize the calibur of their work.

I too stopped in to see these fine folks about a week ago. Great people who strive for authenticity in every detail. I was most impressed with the quality of their wares. I bought an excellent hand sewn Moses Alexander haversack from them.
