When you go into a thread, you'll notice up in the top right hand corner (but below where you Log out) an option called Display Modes.
A little menu will pop up when you left-click it, that allows you to choose between:
Linear Mode is the traditional "flat-discussion-view" we've used for years. When a thread is started, each post is placed in-line regardless of who the poster is specifically replying to in the thread. Ez-Board uses Linear Mode, so have we here at the AC forums for years.
Threaded Mode is the style that Lee White's old forum used to provide us where you see each post in a tree. If a poster replies to another poster, his reply is placed directly under the post he has replied to. This allows more of a discussion within a discussion, if you follow me. It also allows people to abuse it and go nuts on each other. Lets try to avoid that, hrm... shall we?
Hybrid Mode is a combination of these two styles. This is similar to what cwreenactors.com uses. You'll see the Threaded Mode when you enter the thread and you can click on each post individually. You can also scroll down and see the messages presented in a Linear Mode.
How you prefer to read the forum is totally up to you. The choice is yours.
