  • Topics Already covered???

Feel free to move this where necessary,

I propose an idea, that when someone asks a question which has been covered grossly in previous threads, that instead of allowing 3-4-5 pages of responses saying "use the search function", that instead if thoughtful insight is available offer it, provide the link that the individual was unable to find, and then have the MODS lock the thread. I have to admit as nice as the search function has gotten to be, there are still times it cannot find threads which I have either started or written, maybe it's my computer maybe a glitch with the site, who knows....but this way we don't flame anyone, we achieve the goal of helping others to build a more accurate impression and we don't have to search through dozens of pages of junk, thinking maybe someone actually posted something worth while....

    Paul,

With all due respect, it sounds like what you are suggesting is replacing the answer with the information to obtain the answer. This still is spoon feeding in my opinion. The search function is not set up to give the answer right away. It is set to select threads with the words that you used to search in them. Going through these old threads is a form of research.

While I agree that once the person is told to check the site archives, 10 more people don't need to chime in, I have to disagree with you in providing links to a archived thread.

BTW, a quick way to see all threads in which you have participated in is to go to your USER CP and click on the two options for viewing threads with your name.
