  • Wanted: a good shot!

The National Museum of Civil War Medicine has been asked by Grenada Productions to assist in an upcoming episode of The Battlefield Detectives. We will be performing ballistics tests on ballistic gelatin to show the the changes in bullet damage between the Revolution and the Civil War. We will use a Brown Bess, 1842 smoothbore with both buck and ball and minie bullet, 1855 Springfield and a modern AR15. The plan is to use a high speed camera to see actual bullet track damage to both single and multiple targets (two deep). The results will be examined by the National Institute of Pathology, Walter Reed Hospital.

We could really use some help! If any of you would be willing to come out and help in the shooting and do some loading demos (uniform is totally optional) it would be of great help. We are planning to film in Frederick Md. on July 13th in the am. It should be a real learning experience for all. Also if you want to help but can not make the 13th, we will be making the ballistic gelatin on Sunday afternoon the 11th and can use all the help we can get. Please contact me at the Museum if you wish to help. director@civilwarmed.org

This is a great chance to help teach a much mistunderstood part of history to the general public.

    Thanks!
