I recently came up with a solution that greatly reduces misfires in sharps carbines and rifles, although its a bit innacurate to do this, i've found that tearing the cartridges and then putting them into the breech reduces the misfires significantly, the only thing you need to watch out for is that you don't close the cartridge up when you raise the block

Re: Having Sharps Problems?
Originally posted by JimKindredWhen I was shooting my Garret sharps on a regular basis years ago, I made nitrated paper to make the cartridges out of both for live and blank. With this method I never had a misfire with it and loaded them in the breech in the traditional manner.
Some of fellows in my Berdan unit use complete nitrated papers. I make my tubes and put a nitrated circle of paper in the one end. No need to cut off the cartridge and missfires hardly ever occur.Marc Riddell
