  • Can rounds be mailed?

So now that we've cleared up shipping a musket, does anyone know if rounds can be shipped. I was making rounds for a couple of guys in my unit, but they live too far away to deliver them. I know people do send them various ways, and probably without actually stating what they are (an indescriminent package probably doesn't garner much attention) but with my luck, I would wind up in San Quentin. Any thoughts or suggestions out there?
Curt I know you must have some opinions here.

I've gotten 100 rounds shipped UPS to me from Mike Watson, Cartridges Unlimited. These are blank rounds with powder only. No FBI or Homeland Security people dressed in UPS uniforms came to the door with that order. This order was in 2002 prior to Perryville, by the way.

You may be surprised at how much attention an "indiscriminate package" gets. Security measures are now in place which allow virtually everything shipped to be examined and tracked to the nth degree. Personally speaking, I would not risk it without making sure everything was in order. I'm sure there's some method or black powder companies would be OOB, and you might contact Mr. Watson. I'd think the last thing you want to do is just mailing explosives without revealing their contents however. Good luck!

        Re: Can rounds be mailed?

Short answer: NO, rounds cannot be mailed through the US mail.

See the Domestic Mail manual section
C020 Restricted or Nonmailable Articles and Substances
        C023 Hazardous Materials
        at http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/C023.htm#Rap29357

Black powder may be shipped via UPS, subject to their rules.

As far as mailing prohibited items in "indiscriminate" packages, those people you know are breaking the law and putting anyone who rides on commercial airliner at risk of death (remember ValueJet?).

When they get caught, they'll deserve every year of jail time they get.

          Re: Can rounds be mailed?

Believe me, I have no intention of mailing rounds anywhere without revealing their contents, hence the reason for my post. I will contact Mr. Watson and ask his advice.
          Thanks,

As said above you can ship rounds via UPS. There is however a hazerdous materials fee which you have to pay on top of shipping. I've done it before...if i remember correctly it's not that expensive.

I've ordered from Mike Watson too and never had any problems. The package is marked "small arms ammunition," which BTW caught my secretary off-guard :)
