    A good addition to a study on the Vicksburg campaign is Margie Bearss' "Sherman's Forgotten Campaign, The Meridian Expedition".

      Rich,

      You might want to try Nat Hughes book on the battle of Belmont and B. F. Cooling's "Forts Henry and Donelson: The Key to the Confederate Heartland". Both deal with Grant's early campaigns and contain a little bit of material about the organization of the AoTT.

        Gentlemen,
        If'in ya'll going to Franklin,"Embrace an Angry Wind", is a must read.Author Wiley Sword.The subtitle is,"The Confederacy's Last Hurrah:Spring Hill,Franklin,and Nashville".
