    Local historians, reenactors, SCV & UDC citizens of Lexington, Virginia - the burial place of both Lee and Jackson would like to invite any reenactors to come to Lexington on January 13th to participate in the celebration. The following is the flyer (All reenactors, Union or Confederate, who attend will be able to march in the parade and fire a volley at Jackson's Gravesite.

    Robert E. Lee's 200th Birthday will be in 2007. Please mark your calendars and attend the celebration of the lives of two great Southerners here in Historic Lexington, Virginia.

    EVENT SCHEDULE
    10 a.m. Jackson's Grave - Memorial service dedicated to General 'Stonewall Jackson' at his grave site in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery.

    11 a.m. Parade - Following the conclusion of the Jackson service, a parade of heritage groups, reenactors, and attendees will leave the cemetery marching down Main Street to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).

    Noon - Lee Chapel - (Limited Seating) Service honoring the 200th birthday of Robert E. Lee. Our featured speaker will be David Chaltas, D.D. Mildred Childe Lee (Nora Brooks) will speak briefly about her papa as a prelude to her reminiscence at the luncheon. Guest vocalists and music will also be a part of this tribute.

    (Note: Due to limited seating capacity at Lee Chapel, Luncheon and Ball ticket holders will be given tickets for the Lee Chapel service guaranteeing seating. The remaining seating will be available on a first arrival basis.)

    1 p.m. Luncheon (Tickets Required) - Our luncheon is always a great way to enjoy good food and friendly conversation. You will be joined by Robert E. Lee's daughter Mildred Childe Lee who will recall many fond memories of her papa (performance by Nora Brooks)Tickets are $18.00 per person and will be held at Col Alto.

    Robert E. Lee Ball (Tickets Required) 7 PM- This year we will reintroduce our annual ball which will be held at Historic Col Alto c.1827. Tickets are available for $30.00 per person and includes heavy Hors d'oeurves and refreshments. Music provided by the 2nd South Carolina String Band. (Period or formal attire requested)

    The reason I am posting this message is that as a resident of Rockbridge County we are watching the memory of these two great Generals fade. If we could attract a large group for attendance it could hopefully wake up locals to the benefit of celebrating the history that we have here rather than being all hush, hush about it. So, if you have some time in January please think about coming to Lexington to pay respects to Gen Robert E. Lee and Gen THomas J. Jackson. All reenactors will be allowed to march in the parade and fire a volley at the Jackson Gravesite.

    Sounds like a wonderful idea, will send in my money asap. Hopefully the weather will hold out.
