  • New Company Journal Fall 2006 Out

The latest edtion of the Comapny of Military Historians has arrived. Contains some really neat articles on Confederate Sharpshooters and Confederate sleeve badges. Another on the raising of U.S. Colored Troops for the War, and a beautiful full color plate of the 12th N.Y. Militia in 1850. The French Army influence in uniforms is obvious. Besides these articles, several more on the Revolutionary War, Mexican-Expedition of 1916, Marines, etc.

The reason I bring this up is that all of you should become Company members. Lots of perks to belonging to an organization like this. You can meet people who don't reenact per se, but have some really great info. on Civil War material culture. They sponsor an annual meeting. In April they will be in Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. Student Memberships are only $15. Individual memberships are $45 for the Journal only (4 times a year), and $70 to receive the color uniform plates.

The CMH website is, http://www.military-historians.org/ It is also worth note, for those who don't know, that Les Jensen's CS uniform article is on there along with some other good ones. Check out their print section too, some good stuff to be found there.

The CMH website also has its own forum, there you will find the range of beginner to advanced collector and researcher. Some names on there will be familar to you from the AC forum. I have been a member of the CMH for well over 20 years and have greatly enjoyed being a member. The Journal will introduce you to many other time periods than the Civil War. Most issues have a variety of periods reperesented with articles however from time to time a special issue will be issued dealing with a specific topic - such as CS uniforms. Back issues are usually available.

Now, one word of caution, the membership includes many experts in their field, leave the reenactorisms at home when you post on their forum. It could save you some embarrassment.
