    Merry Christmas from the Calloways

    Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, Hannaka, Kwannza, Stalinist-family-sing-along or whatever it is your family-unit celebrates.

    I'll be waking up early to the pitter-patter of little feet and reading a few chapters from the book of Luke tomorrow. As far as I know, I can still read that in my own house... but its getting iffy.

    Well, we have presents to distribute, egg-nog and rum to drink, logs to burn, videos to watch, games to play... I'm going to bed.

    Stay off the boards tomorrow folks. :) Enjoy your families.

    For those of you who are waking up in a sandstorm in the Middle East, thanks for being there so I could be here. We'll be remembering your service tomorrow, as we do every day here at the Calloway house.

    A CW Christmas connection

    Merry Christmas to you, and thanks for all your hard work in getting this forum back up and running.

    I just returned home from one of our family Christmas traditions - midnight mass at my church, St. Luke's Episcopal here in Atlanta.

    This church has a very strong connection to the Civil War. St. Luke's was originally founded in April 1864 - just a month before Sherman launched his campaign to take Atlanta. The founding pastor was Dr. Charles Quintard, at the time Episcopal Bishop of Tennessee, but also chaplain to the Army of Tennessee. He was also John Bell Hood's personal chaplain. Many Confederate soldiers - both privates and officers worshiped at the church in the Sprong and Summer of 1864. Lt. General (and also Episcopal Bishop) Lucious Polk's funeral was held at St. Luke's in May of 1864. Dr. Quintard traveled with the AoT both before and after the Atlanta Campaign, accompanying Hood on his disasterous Tennessee campaign in the winter of 1864.

    The present building was erected in 1906 and is not on the site of the CW era church. St. Luke's was one of the five churches in downtown Atlanta that was spared when the city was torched in the fall of 64.

          Merry Christmas ya'all from south Texas. The lights are hung on the prickerly pear and the mesquite is hung in garlands.
          Keep up the good work Paul. You don't know what your hard work and dedication means to me.

              I hope that this Christmas has brought good cheer to all with in our reenacting community, and I pray that the celebration of the Birth of Christ is deep within our hearts, as our thoughts and prayers go out to the Service men and women now on duty protecting those of us here at home.
