  • 2006 Considered and 2007 on the Horizon

A fellow reenactor asked me the other day, which events I had made it to this year. After some moments to make up a mental list, I came up with these:

    Ft. Donaldson LH
    A Fighting Withdrawal (LBL)
    Ft Duffield LH
    Shiloh LH
    Ft Granger LH
    Rich Mountain
    Chicamauga LH
    Shaker Village LH

and I still have these on my schedule:

    Prelude to Chicamauga,
    A Day on the March
    and
    Ft McAllister

In our brief discussion, these points came up, concerning this years events:

Three events: A Fighting Withdrawal, Rich Mtn. and Prelude will have been the events at which we had opponents on the field.

Four events were Confederate mpressions, Six were Federal, and one Civilian.

Considering all of these, it looks as though the 2006 C/P/H year has been surprisingly busy for me, and even more revealing... all of those events, and not one of them were Mega Fests, mainstream or powder burners (or what ever you like to call 'em).

We also talked about 2007. At the moment, It looks as though 2007 may not be so full, but is still rather promising.

So far, this is what I have on my calendar:

    I 600
    Banks Grand Retreat
Shiloh LH (Encampment at Pittsburgh Landing)
    Spotsylvania LH
    Vicksburg LH
    Ky Inn/Trial Event
WIG Tactical in (or around) October

I know that this year is not yet finished but in retrospect... how has this year been for everyone else (event wise) and did your calendars get as surprisingly busy as mine did? How does everyone elses calendar look for next year?

    Mr. Hicks,

My year was rather lite compared to yours, but real life intervened this year for me.

    March - SWB spring drill

June - Shenandoah '62, Fort Ward LH

    July - Rich Mountain

    Aug - Fredericksburg LH

Oct - Waterford LH, SG Picket Post

2007 events I'm looking at attending:

    Mar - Spring Drill

    Apr - possible Manassas LH

    Jul - 2nd Kernstown

    Sept - South Mountain

Oct - Fredericksburg LH on Slaughter Pen property

There may be some LH's thrown in there in open months. That's enough for me.......................

Brian, has not been as busy as yours, but with 3 boys beating cartoon knots on my head, I found time to do some good quality events that I enjoyed very much.

      Ft. Donelson
      Ft. Duffield
      Ft. Granger
      Rich Mountain
and Prelude to Chickamauga to go

      Plans for 2007 so far
      I600
      Shiloh LH
      Vicksburg LH

Don't know if I can get the kitchen pass for Banks Grand Retreat. :confused_
Im sure I will do two or three more, just have not thought that far ahead yet.

            Brian,

The 2006 season has been excellent, and as you say it has a little ways to go just yet. Season 2007 looks very promising.

                John,
You missed the boat on the Fort Granger LH. That was this past May.

Re: 2006 Considered and 2007 on the Horizon

A small contribution to this thread in the hope that it may persuade others to invest the time in what promises to be a fantastic event. 14 of us, 11 Brits and 3 French comrades are now registered for Banks' Grand Retreat, www.banksgrandretreat.com. To fly from Europe for a US event is a decision to be taken after very careful consideration as the time and expense involved is considerable, well over $1000 per person. However, having participated in a number of events over the years with our friends in the 15th Texas Ground Hornets and CHAPS, we are convinced that BGR will be spectacular. We're checking the kit, getting fit and counting the days!!!!
