Who says 19th century photography was slow?
Here's a cool image of a street scene in Atlanta in 1864, capture by George Barnard, no. LC-B811- 3669[P&P] in the Library of Congress' collection.
Amongst a group of bored soldiers sitting on the stoops of the stores is one fellow who looks to be in the middle of yawning/snoring... enduring the 98% percent of the soldier's life - boredom!
Some other cool details are the poster on the column near the camera advertising "Entertainment at the Lyceum, Every Night ... Week"
Also, the ginormous (I know that's not a word) top hat out on the street. I wish I could make out the sign, to see who the hat maker was there, but I'll be happy with seeing that huge topper. Dern cool.
Anyone out there catch any really weird signs and things in corner of images? Surprises always abound with these pictures, which always keeps them interesting. You find something new every time you look at them.
