  • 6th US Cavalry History

Couldn't quite figure out where to post this since my question covers CW era through current day military.

Besides From Yorktown To Santiago With The Sixth US Cavalry by W.H. Carter are there other regimental histories of the 6th US? I've got a fair amount of information regarding the 6th from its inception through the CW, Indian Wars and Span Am War.

I know they've been reorganized several times and there are currently Air Cavalry Squadrons designated as 6th US, but I'm trying to sort out their history from the Span Am War forward.

    Thanks for any help.

    Mike,
It isn't regimental history, but it is a great read: "Common Soldier, Uncommon War" by Sidney Morris Davis.

    Take care,

Tom, - I agree that "Common Soldier, Uncommon War" is a first rate read. I'm happy to have a copy as sadly it's out of print and being privately published there are no plans for another edition (I've had some contact with the Morris Family.) On a personal aside, this book was a huge help in researching some of my own family history. One of Morris's friends during his service with the 6th Cav was Joseph Charlton and the book includes numerous stories and references to him. Charlton was my G-G-Grandfather.

Jeremy, - I submitted the brief history of the 6th US that appears on the "Bufords Boys" website! Thanks for the links to the other information though.

        Regards,

        Mike Nugent
