  • This time of year

This post was spurred on by a conversation with my wife this evening (from a 20/20 news article; to even what my wife was telling me what Oprah did on her show)..... about what our family and other people like us can do in the realm of giving this holiday season. Not trying to get a pat on the back, but to remind others in the season of pleanty there are other who are less fortunate, in our local communities that could use some help this season.

So with the rush of the holiday season, running around trying to get that perfect gift for someone, the holiday parties at work, plus all the 1000s of other things we find ourselves doing. Please remember those American who are less fortunate than other this holiday season.

Giving to a local church or an adopted a family for Christmas, to the homeless shelter food bank program, the list is endless.

    Re: This time of year

    Well said, Sir.

There are so many ways to help those who are less fortunate. Help serve food at a local shelter, deliver meals to those who are homebound, donate old clothes, offer to help an elderly neighbor put up a Christmas tree....

      Re: This time of year

And please don't forget January and February. One nursing home administrator I know said they about get caroled to death in December, then the folks have a long dingy winter ahead with no company. Once the holidays are over, take some magazines or videos to a nursing home...or, better yet, take a video and stay to watch it.

Churches and other civic groups will be packing, wrapping and transporting Christmas baskets. They almost always need help.

Finally, somebody you know is probably having a rough time financially, and they might not want to apply for help. Dropping an unsigned envelope with some cash in it through their mail slot or stuffing a grocery-store gift card under their door might be a bigger help than you know.
