  • proper percussion caps question

I have a Uberti 1858 remington and a Pietta 1851 navy, both take No. 11 caps..

the only caps that I have ever found is the CCI No. 11 magnum and in order to ensure a proper fit, I have to squeeze the cap so slightly to make sure it stays on when the revolver is being fired. ( The cones are not worn)

Today I purchased a box of caps in a gun shop and when I placed them on the cones, they fit perfectly and no alterations were made.

the cap box is plastic with a orange lable , with the following written on it: AMORCESS DE CHASSE , CANNELEES. In the middle of the cover is a crossed set of rifles over an infantry bugle. On the end of each cap is a capital W

Can anyone help with the identification of these caps and then can anyone offer a solution about the CCI caps having to squeezed.

Thansk in advance for the help

    Re: proper percussion caps question

    Richard,

I did a web search for these caps as I'm sure you did and came up with absolutely nothing. Having said that, there are a lot of different percussion cap manufacturers. I have experienced the same thing with CCI caps and have put the squeeze on many. The main problem with that is you aren't getting a good seal (weather) and most probably the cap will still fall off anyway. I use Remington caps and usually get them at Wal Mart. They make a magnum and regular 11. The Remington caps fit my cones every time while the CCI's dont. Maybe they'll work on your revolvers.

I use mainly Navy Arms and RWS #11 caps on my revolvers. I bought a sleeve of each, and have not had a problem with proper fit.

Bear in mind when using the ill-fitting RWS caps, chain fires happen from the back of the cylinder, not the front, so if your caps don't fit well, you are at risk for a chain fire.

      Stay safe,

If I can be of any service,
