• Emancipation Proclamation

Everybody,

Found this while reading the news today. Thought I'd share it with everyone.

Got me to thinking -- where are the other 23?

Regards,

For those who would like to examine one of the originals, page by page, click:

http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/fea..._proclamation/

Remarkably free of Lincoln's usual flair for phrasology, it does contain this gem:

And upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, upon military necessity, I invoke the considerate judgment of mankind, and the gracious favor of Almighty God.
Bill Carey
He is out of bounds now. He rejoices in man's lovely,
peculiar power to choose life and die—
when he leads his black soldiers to death,
he cannot bend his back. - Robet Lowell, For the Union Dead

And a photo of one of the printed, signed copies is here:

Of course the hand written one is also a good resource for pennmanship!
