To all AC members:
I am posting on behalf of, and in reguard to, the status of the Liberty Rifles, as numerous "rumors" and doubts have been circulating throughout the community for the past year or so about our stature and even existance.
Things with the group had been shakey for a bit over the last year as we lost a fair number of good men for varying reasons. Real life also took precedence for some of our leaders (as many of us are all too familiar with), and as a result things became progressively disorganized. For the 2006 season, the LR had more or less been whittled down to several dozen active guys, and this past November at the annual LR meeting, the topic of the LR's future came into question.
We decided to keep the LR as a battallion, yet go through a series of serious reorganizational steps this winter to breathe new life into the group and once again get excited about the upcoming season. Our ranks definitely had the potential to be rebuilt, as this past summer yielded about half a dozen new young guys, who already had great impressions. We all wanted to get our group back to what it used to be, and take the opportunity of the "off season" to bring it back to life in anticipation of an outstanding 2007 season.
A decision was made to do away with the former "Company" organization, and just be a battallion of "messes" or other smaller groups. The largest group of the LR, Company A (formerly composed of SAC Company and the Hardtack Society), has already reorganized and been reestablished as the National Light Infantry. The latest roster of the NLI has 46 active members, over a dozen associate members, and the 6 new, young recruits.
The Liberty Rifles website has also been "dead" for over a year. This was due to a problem with the site host, and it has now been fixed. This may have contributed to the rumors about our status, because some smaller groups listed under the LR had ceased to exist, yet remained listed on the site. I, as webmaster, have created a brand new website for the LR, complete with new photos from the past year and a members listing with a picture linked for each person. Coming up we hope to make more additions to the site, especially in terms of research articles - some of which are currently in the works. Please feel free to take a look at the new site, located at the same address as before: http://www.libertyrifles.org
In the remaining months of this winter, we are working to reestablish a streamlined system of communication and work to simply get excited about the outstanding events coming up for 2007. Our ranks are rebuilding, fortunantly due to a huge incoming of young, energetic members. Our roster is composed of solid members who come out to at least a few events per year, which has shown in the percentage of turnout at events.
Please be sure to take a look at the LR's new website and see what events we will be putting on and supporting this year, and we will see you there on the field.
