I have recently pruchased a 1855 Springfield socket bayonette and I believe that it is the type 1 because of the way the locking ring touches the slot stop.
at the base of the blade is a dot and underneeath the US and under the US is a R.
at the very bottom of the socket itself is a very small A. any help of oriign would be grealy apprecaited. I also have the original sheath as well. The sheath has the 7 rivets and the frog is not in a buff condition..
