  • 1844 Moses Kaywood gun

    Gents
My uncle was telling me that he had a gun that his wife's dad had give him. He described it to me as this. It has 1844 Moses Kaywood with 5 stars before and after the name and 5 stars at the sight at the end of the gun. He said the inside of the barrel appears to be about a 50 or 60 caliber and the barrel is hexagonal and approximately 5 feet in length. This is all the information I have on the gun except that there was a company in Mississippi that produced a Moses gun.

    thanks in advance

Probably a Kentucky style or "American Mountain Rifle"...there were many names for the common civilian hunting rifles, and they were widely used. Was this one flint or percussion? I am guessing flintlock as the first military percussion rifles and muskets were just being produced at that time (1844).
