Here in Florida the "political correctees" are proposing that Stephen Fosters "Suwanee River" be replaced as state song because it mentions the black folk in a slavery setting. Whats next? Change name of Jacksonville because President Jackson was mean to the Indians and British? Rename St. Augustine because it promotes a catholic saint and is unfair to jews and muslims? Change every towns name that begins with Fort because it promotes image of war? Jim Hensley

Re: "Suwanee River"
While I appreciate the desire to retain historical lyrics to historical tunes, it may be difficult to discuss anything to do with this situation without crossing the line into Modern Politics. Please keep all comments and discussions to a pre-1865 viewpoint.Regards,

Re: "Suwanee River"
What is funny is that modern research speculates whether Foster ever visited Florida. Seems that he was trying to plug in the name of a river in his native Pennsylvania and couldn't get anything to sound right.... Hopefully the PC police won't be able to do anything about your state song.Chris Utley
