Pards,
I have been wanting to post a picture of an original canteen in my collection for a while now. I finally figured out how to post pictures on this site, LOL. I purchased it over 10 years ago from a very reputable dealer and have often wondered about this type of canteen. I was told that it was a "miner's" canteen upon purchase. This canteen was dug at the Antietam Battlefield in the early 1900's. It has a screw top which, I believe, was patented in 1858. There is an almost identical canteen at Gettysburg in the Rosensteel collection but mine still has the top and it does still screw on and off!!
Anyone out there have any additional information on this style of canteen? Thank you for looking.
Best regards, Bill.
