This is a pro session newspaper from Missouri and includes: a very slanted view of the war, advertisements for clothing , recipes, opinions, etc etc!

read them all online there may be other papers, but I just found this today and have been reading them week by week, especially in prep for Athens in 2 weeks.

There is also a pro unionist weekly The Rolla Express... you will notice they have the same advertisements but very different articles about the same news... hahaha

my favorite ad by far is the ads by Dr. Bigeow and your secret diseases... I amagine with such a large article and willingness to send out material in the mail so you don't have to have a visit, there must have been quite a venerial disease problem in Saint Louis.

This reminds me of when I stumbled upon the Kansas Herald of Freedom online while writing a senior thesis and ended up reading it for enjoyment long after the paper was complete. Unfortunately I am now having trouble remembering where it was. If I can relocate it, I will send a link.

I'm having a riot reading about Mr. Ward's trip to the South. Its on the cover of the Rolla Express July 22nd 1861 (?? last the last week) Aparently Mr. Ward and his traveling circus is having a bit of difficulty finding southern hospitality in the "contheiveracy" So bad that he is arrested, and his tiger gets loose.... and he is set free by Jeff Davis but swears that he's going home to start a bully unit of "hoss Cavalry"

It's a great laugh.
