        Is that a sock next to the shoe in the picture?

        If it is it almost looks like it has a sole?

        Could it be a shoe liner rather than a sock?

          Jim, those sorts of personal sets made of ivory, horn or bone date back at least to American colonial times. While that pointy thing has a multitude of uses, I use mine as a sewing awl for embrodiery and as a toothpick.

            If I'm looking at it right I believe the part that looks like a sole is in fact the rim around the top of the sock. By the way the sock looks to be quite ripe.
