Is that a sock next to the shoe in the picture?

If it is it almost looks like it has a sole?

Could it be a shoe liner rather than a sock?

The other item appears to be made of ivory and has an ear wax remover, nail file and a pointey thing that I am not sure of the use. These may not have been used by soldiers but if family history is correct they are period.

Jim, those sorts of personal sets made of ivory, horn or bone date back at least to American colonial times. While that pointy thing has a multitude of uses, I use mine as a sewing awl for embrodiery and as a toothpick.

If I'm looking at it right I believe the part that looks like a sole is in fact the rim around the top of the sock. By the way the sock looks to be quite ripe.
