  • Death march ride sharing anyone?

    Gentlemen,

I was wondering if anyone going to the "Death March" event south of Syracuse would be interested in riding along with me for some company and sharing some gas $'s. I leave home, go north on Rt.11 thru Ohio, get on I-90 at Ashtabula, go on past Erie and will get on the New York Thruway at Buffalo, and basically follow that on to the event. We can meet anywhere along that route during the day that Friday. Feel free to send a pm if interested.

    Thanks,

    Neil,

As an alternate route, consider taking I-86 east from Erie PA and approaching the Marathon, NY area from the south. OR, alternateily, head east/northeast to US Route 15 and take that to Corning, NY and then I-86 east and up to Marathon.

From Buffalo to Syracuse on I-90 is probably taking you too far to the north, and that leg of the trip alone is three hours of driving, plus about another 45 to 60 minutes southward to the site after you're near Syracuse.

      Kevin,

Thanks for the extra directions. IYO, would the Rt.15 to Corning be slightly quicker than I-86, which is, I'm guessing, the southern tier parkway. I think that might be the route I took from Erie to Elmira last year. How much further is this year's event beyond Elmira?

        Neil,

I'd GUESS that it's probably about 90 minutes from the Elmira area to the Marathon area. If one could drive in a straight line it'd be shorter than 90 minutes or so, but central New York State has those very long, narrow Finger Lakes that make east-west travel difficult unless one is north or south of the lakes.

          Kevin,

That's a pretty good guess, according to Mapquest, as it indicates 95 minutes from Elmira to McDonough. LOL, hey looky, it's another I-81 Corridor event....

Thanks guys! I'll take a look at your suggested routes today. BTW, I'm still open for taking anyone along, if you need a lift there.
