I have read a couple first-hand accounts of Hessians serving in the Rev War describing strange lights in the sky, and I've also read a very bizarre account of a picket encountering a strange figure/creature while on post during the Mexican War. That led me to wonder what might be out there on this subject for the Civil War. I'm not a "the truth is out there" type of guy, I just found this very interesting.
Can anyone post some period first-hand accounts of strange or unexplained phenomenon? I'm not talking about something along the lines of "folks here tell a story about that house on the hill;" I want to see accounts where the writer describes something he personally witnessed first-hand.
