  • Model 1861 Springfield by Miroku

If this is an improper posting, mods please remove it.
In the past I noticed high praise for the model 1861 Dixie Gun Works used to sell that was made by Miroku of Japan. Closer in weight and some other things to the Italian version of the same weapon.
I noticed there is one for sale on Gunbroker.com under Collectible-Powder for just a tad under $500.00 as I see now.
As these are no longer available I felt there might be some interest.
I am not connected with the seller in any way.

    Hallo!

Well, IMHO, "high praise" would be a bit much.
"Best of the Worst" might be better.

No one is going to confuse the Dixie-Miroku kit with an original US 1861 rifle-musket, but as Curt says, it is the "best of the worst" (reproductions). Since you build the kit yourself it can be accuracy modified as you go along. The stocks can be quite well made. And it is definitely easier to contour and correctly finish a raw stock than strip the goop off one of the Italian repros, and then shape/refinish it. And the weight being more or less "right on the money" is a big plus. Everything is relative, compared to the Italian made US 1861s, the old Japanese Dixie kit is well remembered.

There will be some interest in that gunbroker.com auction from here.
