  • Antique sewing machine help

    Hello All,

I recently purchased an antique treadle sewing machine and am looking for some assistance in its operation. If anyone can lend their knowledge please contact me at kmstetz@gmail.com I'd like to start making some period clothing, but am at a standstill!

    Thanks,
    Kyle M. Stetz

    Re: Antique sewing machine help

Kyle, What kind and year machine is it? I have three late 1800's treadle machines. I only use one and use the others for parts. Does it have the round or long bobbins? If the machine is working then it will be fun once you get the hang of it. The simple chain lock was being used during the 1860's. I inspected the stitch of an 1860 hand treadle yesterday and it was the same as my 1931 electric and my 1899 Singer. But I like the 1899 the most.
