Unit trim color

Perhaps some one out there could help answer this for me. i remember seeing somewhere(either from a museum or photo)a artillery uniform that was trimmed in red but on the cuff's still had yellow denoting that the individual had been in the cavalry. has anyone seen this coat? and or know of any instances where soldiers would leave some sort of identification from previous units?
