  • Lincoln's 1863 Thanksgiving Day Proclamation

I attach Lincoln's Thankgiving Proclamation of 1863. While many of wish each other a "Happy" Thanksgiving it truly is a time for reflection and humility for the things we are blessed with in this country. Lincoln, I believe, understood this and set aside a day for giving thanks to God in spite of the loss and horror of the war the country was enduring.

May your Thanksgiving day be full of joy.

Across the Ohio we could see “Old Indiana.” This made the boys home sick. How they did want to cross the river into “God's Country.” James B. Shaw, 10th Indiana Inf.
