After reading all the stuff about the W64 event I've got the "hots" to build a winter hut with stove. I started looking around for sheet iron stoves or how to build one and I come across an 1858 issue of The Mechanics Magazine on Google books. All I can say is wow, great article by Admiral Dalghren (of the gun fame!) on naval warfare, talk of electric lights, the use of electro magnatism as a propulsion source etc... Folks you have to peruse this, talk about some fuel for talks around the fire! How about a "period" discussion on who had a working electric light in 1855 (read the letter from the guy who sounds kinds ticked about it), or how electromagnatism will replace steam. The magazine is English and has a fair bit about Brunel and the launch of his ship The Leviathin too. Its a bit of a pain to scroll down and read, but it has some top drawer stuff in it, hope you enjoy.
