Had such a great time, I forgot to call my wife for the entire shooting. How many guys remember me teaching Chandler's Drill for Wisconsin Volunteers on the first morning, so we could portray Gibbon's Brigade corretly?

      Still around and avtive.

I hope I'm still alive if they ever release the filming.

        Steve,
Just came on this thread. While moving a couple months ago I found the VHS trailor that Graham mailed me. I'm in it for about 8 frames. Showed it to the wife and she couldn't believe I was that skinny. I only made it up for the 99 shoot (and ran into Caldwell and Co up there). Special memories around Burnside bridge.

            Steve,
Yup, still reenacting with very fond memories of working with you and all the other boys. Still in contact with a lot of them as life long friendships developed. I worked with Brad (HE RECENTLY GOT MARRIED!!!) and Dave Roberts on a project this last October, and according to them, Antietam is still in the works!

"Half cooked grits", I wouldnt have even called them that, more like cheese flavored sand. Well, that did drive some of us to find the ole Nibble Quik up the road. I think that was the best pizzia I ever had, or was I that hungry.

                  Re: Antietam Documentary Veterans?

I find it humorous that so many of you bring up the grits! By luck, I avoided such a meal. Extreme sufforing from a lack of meat in my diet forced me to go into town the night before and buy a pound of bacon and a dozen eggs. The next moring Bruce Anderson and I made a fire and cooked them all up. After devouring this succulent meal, we could hear all this yelling and complaining down by the food tent. Mike Bryant was walking by and we asked him what all the noise was about. After he complaind about how bad the grits were, I figured everybody was just bellyaching about the food again. "They can't be THAT bad." Mike assured me that they were. I didn't believe him so I had to go see for myself. I wandered over to the food tent (there was still plenty left over) and helped myself to one spoon full. Only those that were there know I don't exaggerate when I say that a spoon full of gravel would have digested earier than those grits did that morning.
                  Ahhhhh, what memories!

The Nibble Quick, may it rest in peace, for like my youth it is gone.

The constant theme of new friends and experiences resounds through these posts. Regardless of the program not being done or whatever criticims we can through at the project, it sure paid us big in experiences and friends.

                      Ack,
The 2 weeks I spent in Marlyand in 99 were worth it. i never got a red nickel out of it. But I slept campaign style for 2 weeks, with the only washing I took the 2nd 2 last day under Burnsides bridge. remember that? That shirt (i wore 1 for 2 weeks) is still nasty.
sadly I sold the trousers, but style have the richmond jacket.

                        Re: Antietam Documentary Veterans?

From the cool temps of Harper's Ferry in November, to the sweltering heat of one of the latter film shoots at Claymont Estate while we were housed at the dorm......so many memories, so little time.
I'd also like to propose that we create a place where we could submit five of our favorite photographs each from the Antietam shoot. An Antietam Fraternity book of sorts....

Great Idea. Maybe Antietam would make a good social group, a place where we can share photos and news.

In the meantime here are a few, mostly of the 6th Wisconsin, but I will scan more later.

Definitely! How do we set that up? Perhaps we could expand that to include other stuff like Owl Creek Bridge or similar projects if people are interested. Film section perhaps? I don't know, just throwing out an idea.....

I had a funny recollection. I want to say that we were doing an intense scene around our faux Dunkard Church at Middlekauf. We had this mounted officer in this scene........so it's "quiet on the set, and ack-shunnnnn!"........the guy shouts "forward!" or whatever, and puts the spurs to the horse, which suprises it. The horse leaps off the ground on all fours and lets out this humongous equine fart at the same time, which sent the troops into convulsions.

Had to shoot that one over.....

WOW!!! I had just finished my first year of college when I signed on to do that. I remember the day they sent a bunch of us into the cornfield to check the cone of an artillery piece that they had filled with gravel. They fired it off before we were all out. Thankfully we were clear of the piece when they did. Bad food. Terrible water. Would have probably made some of the ol' boys proud to see us eat what they were giving us. And who could forget the goat that had it's ear bit off by the horse?
