Period dye

I have some very light colored jean wool and wanted to dye it to a darker shade. I was wondering what some easy period correct ways of doing this would be? Mostly what substances would do the best job?

Well, it all depends on what your definition of "easy" entails. Most period dye processes are right much of a job, though a strong man with a very large dyepot will have a somewhat easier job of it, simply because he's able to lift and turn the steaming wet heavy material in order to get an even dye job.
