  • Feb. 12 , this day in History

    Dear Fellers ,
" Peculiarsome Abe " , born in Kentucky , 1809 on this day . Folks in Illinois used to engage in quaint custom of displaying their American flags on this day !
    all for the old flag,

Old Glory displayed on our house, pards are performing honor guard duties this morning by statue (created by Daniel Chester French of Lincoln Memorial fame) at the Capitol and we will have a concert of 19th century music in his memory at Lincoln High School this evening.

I've been thinking about him all day and outside of the window where I work is this Equestrian statue of the man by Anna Hyatt Huntington called "On the Circuit" at the College of Forestry in Syracuse NY

There are several other castings of this statue across the country the one pictured here is in Lincoln City Oregon.

I visited Lincoln City OR on a trip and came around the corner to this totally cool statue. It certainly captures the man and his determination to better himself - serious multi-tasking going on here.

Abe was unique and IMO no American has ever been thrust into a more difficult leadership situation nor performed better under pressure than he. It remains the greatest of tragedies that he did not live to lead the peace as he so ably led the war.

            Happy 199th Mr. President.

For those in the midwest , our mess in is in the planning stages of a Living History to be held in Springfield at the Old State Capitol . THis LH would be part one of may activities to celebrate Lincoln's 200th birthday year.

Happy B-D Mas Linkun. Mighty fine hoss you gawt there.

Think about the statute, that horse must be pretty tall for Abe's legs (while bent) not to be dangling excessively beneath its belly.
