  • firearm for civilian impression

I am intending to portray a civilian in the area of western Mo. who is going to protect his home and family from Jayhawkers and maruaders. I intend to portray a middle class landowner, not rich, but not poor either.

I have a Uberti 1847 pocket revolver for a sidearm however, ( i do not know if even having a sidearm would be proper)i wish to have a longarm as well. I am aware that a double barreled shotgun would be proper for that impression, but i would rather have a rifle than the shotgun

I do not want to have any of the Hawkin style or the Kentucky longrifle..So any suggestoions in this area wouldbe greatly appreciated.

This should muddy the waters a little. We hit on the subject of civilian arms a few months ago here: http://authentic-campaigner.com/foru...ad.php?t=13972

I think you have hashed out what you want already. Look for "squirrel" rifles, which are typically small caliber and specifically made for accuracy at a medium distance. Also perhaps a sigle barrel shotgun would be a good choice as well. I think the cut down double barrel shotguns that are being reproduced now a days are over represeneted in the civilian-military-male side of things.

That 47 or 49 pocket p;istol you have would be an acceptable piece for a missouri cavalyman. Another possible would be the 51 navy.

Hope this helps narrow your search a bit...
