  • Civil War Cemetary in Brooklyn, NY

The news story is actually about a Flight Instructor who got arrested for breaking into a flight training center. But what I noticed was on the right side, about halfway down was a video describing a cemetary in Brooklyn and also a book about the soldiers who are at rest there. Does anyone know of this cemetary or who have read the book?

    Here's the link, James. http://www.green-wood.com/

If I get "back East" this summer, I hope to visit a few such sites in New York State, looking for ancestors in blue.

Anybody been to this particular (Green-Wood) cemetery?

Where have you landed after graduating?

      Thanks for the update Paul!

Life is definately busy now. Two kids (yes, twins - one boy and one girl) and I'm flying for a jet charter company based out of Omaha. But, I'm learning the Camp Duties for the fife and plan on making it to a few events this year.

Last May, I was afforded the honor of providing music, along with a few of my comrades, for the ceremony that rededicated thousands of headstones for veterans of the Civil War buried in that cemetary.
Greenwood cemetary is an incredible place, historic, and beautiful.
In the 19th century it was "the" place to be buried, if you were anybody. Yes yes, folks were dying to get in there but that aside follow the link provided by Mr Hadley, the Civil War Soldier project was an incdredible undertaking but well worth the effort
Greenwood cemetary is quite a place

What a fantastic story and project. I've been on a similar conquest myself in that my great grandfathers served in the 49th KY Vol. Inf. and Hall's Gap Battalion. He died in 1902 in Laurel County KY and I've been searching for his grave with the goal of having an official tombstone put there (if I can find it.)
I've only been able to confirm throught the NARA that no tombstone was issued for him and thus they don't know where he is buried.

I'm prould of the people that did this for our brave ancestors who gave of themselves in the quest to preserve that in which they believed.
