For those of you in the upper Midwest, there is a chance to see the original Morrill Act on display at Iowa State University, as well as several Civil War related items on display. This is the first time that the Morrill Act has been displayed outside of the National Archives, and the first display of the Act itself since 1979. There is a small section of the exhibit devoted to the War, including the battleflag of Company B, First Iowa Cavalry, also known as the Hawkeye Rangers. Information on the exhibit can be found at http://www.museums.iastate.edu/MorrillAct.html.
One thing I found interesting about the exhibit is that there is no mention of the role of secession in the passage of the Morrill Act. With no resistance from Southern congressmen, the Act was among a number of pieces of legislation aimed at the agricultural/rural voting bloc that became law during the War.
