  • CWT: Preservation March 2008

    Folks-

I want to bring to your attention the 2008 Preservation March taking place November 1-2, 2008. See the attached flyer for more information.

Please consider marching in it, or supporting someone who is march. Not only is the money we can raise important to our efforts, but also the publicity. We need to show the public that 1) this problem of dissappearing battlefields exists, and 2) that there are people who care and are working to mitigate the problem.

We'll never save all the land, but let's save as much as we can. A great point was made to me recently that so many of the battlefields are still graveyards. These are sacred places. A memoir I just finished reading spoke about a farm where the ground was so blood soaked from battle that it took years before they could get crops to take root.

This march is being supported and promoted by the Civil War Preservation Trust which gives us a unique opportunity to get our message of Battlefield Preservation out to the widest audience.

There is a website you can visit for more information, it may not be entirely complete to check it often for updates.

    Gents,

This event has gone on in a couple of different forms for the past two years. From a cavalry perspective I have attended few better events! From a general reenactor perspective I would say that if you are looking for a largely pristine environment in a history soaked area, this is the place for you.

Sign me up! If you are Federal cavalry, and you are interested in attending this event, contact me: tom-craig@sbcglobal.net

      Re: Preservation March 2008

      Fellows,
I will echo what has been said by Greg and Tom. This is a very important event because of the potential it has to publicize battlefield preservation and make a strong contribution to it. Those of you that attended the 2000 March and other events/marches Rob Hodge has put on know that this one is one not to miss too! I have spent a couple weekends on this ground the past two summers and I can honestly say that I have not seen such a large section of green space, or historic green space for that matter, in one area. This experience really gives something tangible to the preservation efforts.

I will be there without a doubt! I have already had some folks contact me about this event as well, noticing it in my signature line. Any questions you may have, please consult the links from the flyer Greg attached, and I will be happy to answer whatever questions I can beyond that.

Gents-- We'll be posting (with pictures) the P-2008 T-shirts available for the event. ALL proceeds from the sale of these will go toward the target areas. We only have eight dozen available so keep in touch as they won't be around that long....

Folks, the P-2008 t-shirts are in!! These are high-quality all cotton shirts; the majority are sized XL and XXL with just a few M's and L's available. Your minimum $20 donation will get you one of these postpaid. Make all checks or money orders payable to C.W.P.T. (Civil War Preservation Trust) and send to:

          Don and Sam Harrelson
          P.O. Box 1451
          Virginia Beach, VA 23451

No, the model is not included with your shirt!

            Don,

Thanks for posting the shirt pictures... are you SURE we can't get the model if we buy a couple of shirts?! Clever angle with the shirts BTW!

Do you know if any new info about the event is going to be published any time soon? The 1st Maine is definitely looking forward to the event, but we'd like to see some more people on board and getting details out to people sure would help!

            Take care,

My Registration is in...who else has signed up for this worthy cause?

Perhaps we could have something posted in the events folder for this event?

I would be there if it weren't for previously planned engagements.

This is certainly a great effort and a very worthwhile cause.

On a lighter note, I noticed no shirts in a size small?!

We had some XS tank tops made up for our model but no smalls in the sleeved version as these things SHRINK (all cotton).

                      Paul and Others,
There is another thread in the event topics. It just hasn't seen any action in a couple months:
