Re: U.S. Soldier Mex War remains found

I've been trying to find a good account of what the 1st Tennessee Volunteers wore. I understand that they had some 'regular' equipage but were they ever issued actual regular infantry uniforms?

      Mr. Russell,

Aside from whatever sources and archives are available via the fine state of Tennessee, you might try the Ron Field book "Brassey's History of Uniforms: Mexican-American War 1846-1848". This book was published in 1997 and while by no means perfect it does have a lot of information including a chapter on Volunteer units by state and some information as to what they wore and how they were equipped. While its certainly a step ahead of the Osprey offering, it does lack some details, but even as of now I think it remains the only semi-decent book devoted strictly to the Uniforms of that conflict. It also includes many original photos of soldiers and officers.
