  • A Call to Arms! Battle Of Franklin

    Greetings!
As you know December is around the corner. The first weekend of December is the annual Franklin Candlelight Tour of Homes. The money raised on the ticket sales goes toward the operating budget of the Historic Carter house thus helping with the preservation of that historic site.
One of the sites on the tour is St. Paul's Episcopal church located down the road from the Carter house. This church was used by the Federals as barracks during their occupation of the town of Franklin. After the bloody battle on Nov. 30, 1864, the church was used as a field hospital by the Feds until they left then used by the Confederates. The scars of war are still visible on the interior columns!
This is where YOU come in. Me and some of my friends are working on creating a hospital scene at St. Paul's for the candlelight tour. Many of you will already be in Nashville on that day (Dec 6th) for the civil war show. If youre still in town that Saturday evening and would like to help out by playing a wounded confederate in the church hospital. Please let me know.
This is a great way to protray history at an authentic site and help with the preservation of the Historic Carter House.
    your humble servant,
    Cliff Kelley

I'm game!! This church is a great place and with the right guys (and ladies) it could give the place a real authentic feel. I've done some hospital scenes before that were pretty lame, but I'm sure Cliff and the guys can make this the IT spot on the tour for the good folks of Franklin (donation folks) something to remember.

my unit did a hospital scene at the carter house last year on sunday.it felt so real that one of the girls going through the tour, wouldn't go into the bedroom where the wounded was laying.

        Cliff,

I will be there. Wounded, attending, or leading a tour.

Cliff, this sounds like a great opportunity for folks to participate in a good fundraiser for Franklin. Promises to be very enjoyable. The only problem with me and many other local WIG members participating will be the WIG Annual Meeting in Nashville on Saturday night. Sorry I won't be able to participate! Always had fun doing the Tour back in 98-01.

Yes Cliff.. you are a natural.. We appreciate you. You are a pillar for the hobby, locally. As for the event: As soon as I got there you guys told me to strip and play wounded.. I had alot of fun. Everything was done very tastefully and our mess hosted the public well. We had a decent turnout and yes, Kaelin, we did educate folks about their history and again.. all for historic preservation! Bravo! Next year we ought to get the city to block off an area around a site and have them allow us a fire and have a real nice hospital scene for all to enjoy.. passersby and tour participants alike. Dream big now.. opportunities such as these grow more dim by the day.
